It’s been two weeks since we came home from our Europe trip. But to be honest, my mind hasn’t fully returned 🤪
.
Every day of our trip was new. New people, new food, new landscapes. And it’s as though my brain is still in that state. It flits between tasks, constantly searching for the unfamiliar. I’m finding it hard to concentrate.
.
On one of the last days of our trip, after almost three weeks of time with family, I had the rare opportunity to spend the day alone. I hiked a 14km section of the famous West Highland Way - from Kingshouse to Kinlochlevan.
.
Dr. Sweetpea walked me to the trailhead, I started hiking, and it started pouring. And pouring. Classic Scottish weather 🌧️
.
I was prepared (and almost cozy) in my rain pants and jacket. I put on my ball cap and hood to redirect the rain out of my eyes.
.
As I hiked along the highway, the “Wee White House” came into view. The house is actually called the Lagangarbh Hut, and is currently used by the Scottish Mountaineering Club for hikers and mountaineers exploring the Glencoe Highlands.
.
The hut was practically glowing through the grey rain as it sat beneath the misty Buachaille Etive Mor.
.
As I turned to climb The Devil’s Staircase, I would occasionally turn back to view the hut from increasingly higher elevations.
The rain let up enough that I could take my camera out of my pack without completely destroying it, and I snapped a few shots.

During our trip to Denmark this summer, we were lucky to reconnect with family we hadn’t seen in almost two decades (how I’m old enough to say stuff like that is beyond me😆).
.
One of my favourite memories from our last trip to Denmark, when I was 16 years old, was of our cousin Anja, taking myself and my younger brother Eric out to the disco. We met Anja’s friends, we got to drink beer(!), and it was one of the absolute highlights of our young lives!!
.
This trip, we were so thankful to see Anja again and meet her amazing boys ❤️ It was an instant renewal of friendship. She is just as beautiful and wonderful as ever.
.

When Mike and I started planning his 40th birthday

When Mike and I started planning his 40th birthday trip to Scotland, I got a wild idea.

What if…his twin brother James (who he shares a birthday with #obvy 🤣, and who lives a province away from us) could surprise Mike by showing up in Scotland so they could celebrate together?!
It was just crazy enough to work - and dangit James, we did it! 🥹😭 @cptjimjam

James flew into Edinburgh and arrived while Mike and I were on a tour with their high school friend and incredible historian, Chelsea.
Chelsea has connections at a local pub who agreed to let James post up behind the bar, so that when we strolled in after our tour, James was ready to give Mike the surprise of a lifetime ❤️
.
These two are absolutely best friends. Mike jokes that James is his “Wombmate” 🤣
They are both scotch fans, and on their actual birthday (Aug. 29), we’ll be together at Lagavulin, touring Mike’s favourite scotch distillery! @lagavulinwhisky

Thank you for teaching me what mascara does, showing me that badminton and yearbook club would be super fun (I copied you in both those things 🤣), giving me my first film camera and video camera (even after I wrecked yours 😬) and being the greatest cheerleader.

I’m so grateful for your adventurous spirit - showing us what’s possible, no matter our age. We’re all better huggers because of you.
