Strong, patient, silly. The one who uses his day o Strong, patient, silly.
The one who uses his day off to clean our home, put air in the car tires and make me a sandwich for lunch.
He’s a doctor, a chef, a baby-whisperer, and my ever-ready model.
He skis like a pro, hootin’ & hollerin’ as he launches himself down runs I’m too scared to touch.
He takes 5-7 photos a year, and they’re often blown-out shots of famous landmarks.
He teases.
He is sensitive.
He loves, and I love him.

Yesterday I read one of @karenchoi.co ‘s posts. Yesterday I read one of @karenchoi.co ‘s posts. Karen and I used to work together at a media company in Toronto, and I’ve always looked up to her seemingly limitless energy and hilarious sense of humour.
.
👉🏻One of my greatest memories of working with Karen is an after-hours party at work that ended with her wearing a tambourine on her head and singing show tunes 🎶🎤
.
Her post was a video of herself cold dipping, breathing through the discomfort.
.
Through voiceover, Karen shared some ways to instil healthy personal habits.
.
One line in particular really stood out to me: “Get in the habit of getting out of your own way.”
.
Yes. Yes. Exactly this.
.
I feel like I do this constantly!
I overthink, I worry, and in some cases, turn down opportunities because I’m scared. The fear of failure is strong with this one 😩
.
But - with that line in mind: I got out of my own damn way, and booked a shooting job this weekend 🥳. There’s no guarantees, but this freelance opportunity (though it makes me nervous!) could lead to greater things with a really rad production co. Whew.
.
Thanks for the encouragement, Karen. Ima continue to work at getting out of my own way more often 😆👍🏻

The last few weeks I’ve been helping produce a couple broadcast commercials at work. I was acting as support to our Senior Producer on this one, and it’s been really nice to work in this role.
.
As a Producer/Director, sometimes I get caught up in owning a project and not delegating as much as I should. This has been a nice lesson in letting go of the big picture, and simply helping out on specific tasks. It sounds simple, but sometimes it’s hard to let go of that control 🤪
.
I will say that it *really* helps when the crew is basically a group of close pals and the clients are real team players (who like to celebrate with shots for the whole table & are generous with their appreciation 🥃)
.
Sometimes, I look at larger productions and get kinda jealous…
👉🏻But - when a small, tightly-knit group of good people come together - we can accomplish great things #cliché 🫠
.
Also - for the record - our Senior Producer absolutely crushed this project 💪🏻 - I learned a lot watching his patience and focus👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I have set some goals (take a first aid course).
I have joined a club (does a bachelor pool count as a club??).
And we’ve watched a good movie (“The Banshees of Inisherin” - watch it!)

⭐️ 2022: A Year In Review ⭐️ . Holy moly. ⭐️ 2022: A Year In Review ⭐️
.
Holy moly. I did A LOT this year.
I spent birthdays with family, celebrated a wedding in Colombia and another in my home town, showed off Squamish to friends, did more hiking than I’ve ever done in one summer, skateboarded with my nephew, met new babes, reconnected with old friends, skied, drank, swam, danced, Choir’d, Slow-Cycled, premiered a film, did some pottery, cold-dipped, and somehow worked a full time job - plus freelanced. 🤣
.
As I said in a previous post, this year I was greedy. I wanted it all.
…I still do.
.
And though this is a highlight reel that doesn’t show the stress and the worry and the disappoint and the sadness (because trust me, that was all there too), I’m thankful to have it to look back on and be proud of. I worked hard to experience these things. And I’m so blessed to have supportive friends, family and colleagues who believe in me and help me make space for doing what I love.
.
So many people who made this year great, I’ll tag as many as I can! Thank you for making 2022 so special ❤️

❄️ Walking on a dream…. . We’ve done the J ❄️ Walking on a dream….
.
We’ve done the Joffre Lakes hike a few times now - but this is the first time we’ve snowshoed up! We could have gotten by with spikes (Mike changed to those on the way down), but I like the sense of power that comes from a solid set of snowshoes! No way am I sinking in these puppies! 😜
.
This was also the first (& likely the only) time we’ve had the lakes all to ourselves. If you’ve ever been here in the summertime, you’ll know how much of a zoo this place is, so it felt pretty special to go at our own pace and take in the unobstructed views.
.
As we hiked down, the moon had started to rise and a small sliver of pink-ish sun snuck between the clouds. What a day 💖
.
📍Some simple reminders when you’re hiking in the winter:
- leave a trip plan with someone so they know where you’re going and when you’ll be back. Joffre does not have cell reception, so if you have a GPS device, bring it with you.
- bring extra layers to stay warm if the sun drops, the wind picks up or you get wet
- check the thickness of the lake ice before walking out on it! Crouch on the edge of shore where you’re safely away from falling in, and dig through the snow - ice should be at least 10cm thick before you walk on it. Never go out on ice if you’re alone. 👉🏻 FYI: We did not go out on the ice as it was not thick enough🧊
- as always, bring extra water and snacks! 😋
.
Have you hiked Joffre in the winter? What did you think?
.
Our last days of 2022 were spent in the dreamland Our last days of 2022 were spent in the dreamland that is Joffre Creek Cabins.
.
Dr. Sweetpea and I had the privilege of staying at the Little Cabin a couple summers ago, so when a cancellation came up over New Years we absolutely leapt at the chance to spend time here over the winter (👉🏻pro tip: get on the Cabin mailing list for this exact reason!!).
.
The Little Cabin has a loft space for sleeping (with flannel sheets that softly tuck you in), a record player and a collection of essential jazz and rock albums (think Etta James, Steve Miller Band and Buddy Holly), and a wood stove to stoke and curl up in front of.
.
We fell asleep each night to the sound of Joffre Creek rushing past the property, and spent our days exploring the nearby provincial park, the town of Pemberton and (my favourite) staying inside in front of the fire.
.
It’s hard for me to slow down. But this year, I’m making this more of a priority. I want to spend more time reading and resting.
.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity and the privilege Mike and I had to spend these last 5 days, resting together.
.
I’m thankful for the hosts, Andrea and Chris, and their generosity and sense of humour.
Andrea’s insta captions are a highlight of this app - and we’re basically Instagram pen pals. AND, after they let me use their family’s sword to sabre open a champagne bottle - we’re totally friends IRL! 😁
.
I’m thankful for the outdoors and the inspiration it gives me, but I’m also thankful for the fog and how it grants me permission to stay home and focus on the inside instead of the out.
.
One day during our trip, it snowed. The softest, most silent flakes slowly drifted into the forest. They seemed to fall in slow motion. It was mesmerizing. At this pace, I was able to focus on each one as it settled. I think that’s the benefit of living slowly, and with more intent: focus.
.
Here’s to the new year and all that is to come.
.
🤍
